Welcome to Susan Tobin Watercolors…

I am a full time resident of Sarasota, Florida after living in Texas, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Wyoming, New York City and Osterville, MA.

As you visit my site you will be able to purchase original paintings, or giclees, art on canvas.  You decide the size you want for your giclee and I will have it printed.

I’m known for my fresh, realistic and traditional watercolors.  Over the past five years I have begun painting with Yupo paper and this has allowed me more freedom of expression solely by how the water and paint merge together.  Over the forty-two years I have painted, my style and interests have changed along the way.  In the beginning years there were a lot of barns from Vermont and New Jersey that I loved to paint.   Central Park in the winter and the fall were favorites.  Painting the beaches on the Jersey shore, Maine, Florida and Cape Cod were a joy.  There is not a lighthouse in the Northeast that I haven’t painted.  Trips to France to paint plein air and other vacation spots around the world gave me a forever supply of subject matter to draw from.

Snow scenes were my favorite for years.  Snow falling, drifts and moody scenes hang in many homes as well as ski scenes from Park City, Utah and Vermont.  Okemo has a limited addition of the Ford Farm all over town. Two sold out shows in Park City filled a few homes out there as well.

As a full-time resident of Sarasota, Florida these past five years my work has gravitated to seascapes and palm trees.  Snow is not a big seller down here.  My life as an artist has continually fulfilled me.  I see the skies with their blazing sunsets, the scary storms creating winds along the many beaches.  High tides with worked up violent waves excite me and I want to paint them.

I am from San Antonio, Texas and grew up to attend eight schools before I graduated from High School.  I had a career in business and didn’t begin to paint until I was 33 years old with two children.   I had never had an art class but made up for that with steady studying for over 25 years.  Favorite teachers were Edwin Havas and William Senior and Denise Collins all New Jersey top artists.  I took so many workshops and classes that they began to blur together.

Over the years my paintings have been sold to many individuals through galleries.  The Family Jewels in Park City, Utah I had two sold out shows, the Hammond House in Ludlow, VT, the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ , the Cultural Arts Center of Cape Cod, the Osterville, MA library are just a few.

For five years I was at Towles Court where I painted and displayed my work.   I have entered the University Park Art show and have won Best in Show and also received the Transparent award with the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society. I was president for a year with them.  I donate paintings to The Wounded Warriors, The Christ Child Society and I teach children when I have time.
